纪录片《马背上的青铜帝国》以北方草原青铜文明为题材，展现来自草原帝国独特的历史文化魅力，再现两千多年前北方草原游牧民族生产、生活、军事等历史篇章，拍摄横跨欧亚、美洲大陆，历经内蒙古鄂尔多斯、蒙古乌兰巴托、美国纽约、瑞典斯德哥尔摩、俄罗斯圣彼得堡、北京、陕西、吉林、大连等多地进行拍摄，采访国内外著名专家教授10多位，历时一年拍摄制作完成。
影片用一种年轻的视角望进古老故宫深处，通过文物修复的历史源流、“庙堂”与“江湖”的互动，近距离展示了稀世珍宝的“复活”技术、文物修复师的日常生活与修身哲学。文物修复技艺的薪火相传，人与物的相互陶冶、丰润与传承，呈现“文物医生”和他们的“文物复活术”的故事。
影片讲述了三个不同年龄段的人孤独的故事。
